CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Nicole Lorup fired a 3-under 69 to lead Troy in Tuesday's final round of the Islander Classic at the Corpus Christi Country Club. Lorup finished in a tie for second place, and Troy took home fifth place in the 14-team field.
Lorup had her way with the golf course finishing the day with six birdies and just three bogeys for her third round in the 60s this season and seventh round in the red. She finished with nine birdies over the three rounds and was second in the field with a 1-over par aggregate on the par 4 holes.
The top five finish was her fifth in seven events this season as she finished just one shot behind Lauren Mancha from Incarnate Word for what would have been Lorup's third individual title.
Troy carded the fourth-best round of the day with an 8-over 296 as a team but couldn't quite make up enough ground to catch Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for fourth place. Sam Houston State squeaked out a one-stroke victory over Houston Baptist for the team title.
Elisabeth Preus closed out a steady week with a 2-over 74 behind three birdies to finish the week at 7-over par and tied for seventh place; her third top 10 finish of the season. Ainsley Cowart shined as an individual for the Trojans with her second top 25 finish of the year after closing play with a 4-over 76.
Anna Claire Little had the shot of the day for the Trojans with an eagle on the par-4 18th, a 346-yard hole. She finished the day 3-over and finished the tournament in a tie for 28th place overall. Brooklyn Bostick, another individual in the tournament for Troy, finished in 47th place after a 5-over 77 Tuesday, and Judith Castro tied for 50th place to round out the field for the Trojans.
Troy has a little break before heading to the UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., March 9-10.
