TROY, Ala. – Troy dropped its first contest of the year in the series finale to Louisiana Tech, 9-0, Sunday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojans still picked up their second series victory of the season after defeating the Bulldogs in games one and two of the series.
The Louisiana Tech (5-2) bats finally came to life after being held mostly silent in the first two games of the series. For the first time this season, Troy (7-1) struggled to get anything going offensively. Rigsby Mosley was able to extend his career-long hitting streak to 14 games with a single in the bottom of the third.
The Bulldogs got things started with two, two-run homers in the second and third innings. Louisiana Tech tacked on another run in the seventh and four more in the eighth to complete the day's scoring. Troy nearly got on the board in the bottom of the ninth when Mosley connected on a ball deep to left field but was robbed of the home run by Cole McConnell.
Jarret Whorff (2-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs while Max Newton (1-1) was tagged with the loss. Noah Janney impressed on the mound for the Trojans in the ninth inning, striking out three of the four batters he faced.
Quotable – Head Coach Mark Smartt
"Give [Louisiana Tech] credit for what they did. They came out swinging today. We can use this a learning opportunity and I'm looking forward to seeing how this team responds."
