Troy Softball Hits the Road for First Time in 2020 Campaign

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Softball team hits the road for the first time this season Wednesday as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., to take on in-state foe, Samford. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Trojans (3-1) kicked off the season at home in the Trojan Classic where they defeated Lipscomb, College of Charleston and North Florida but dropped an extra innings affair to Western Kentucky.

Leanna Johnson (2-1) started her sophomore campaign off in style pitching two shutout victories including a one-hitter over North Florida and turning in two double-digit strikeout games.
Â
After opening weekend, Troy's pitching staff ranks sixth nationally with a 0.48 ERA while Johnson ranks first nationally in shutouts (2) and sixth in strikeouts (31).

Logan Calhoun leads the Trojans offensively batting .400 with four hits, two runs scored and a double.

Scouting Samford
The Samford Bulldogs (3-1) opened the 2020 campaign with a win over Eastern Illinois and a pair of wins over Akron but fell to Winthrop and dropped a game to Eastern Illinois.

O'Neil Roberson leads the Bulldogs offensively batting .588 with two doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.

Abby Swaney (1-0) has seen the most amount of time in the circle recording a 3.18 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 11 innings of work.
