Trojan Fans, COVID-19 has brought about a number of twists and turns. We have seen this on a global spectrum and we have certainly seen it firsthand during the 2020 college football season.Â
As we near the end of the regular season, we want to ensure that all fans are made aware of the scenarios in play for the Sun Belt Conference during bowl season.

As we near the end of the regular season, we want to ensure that all fans are made aware of the scenarios in play for the Sun Belt Conference during bowl season.
There are five (5) primary bowl tie-ins for the Sun Belt Conference:Â
- Myrtle Beach Bowl (Dec. 21)Â
- New Orleans Bowl (Dec. 23)Â
- Camellia Bowl (Dec. 25)Â
- Cure Bowl (Dec. 26)Â
- LendingTree Bowl (Dec. 26)Â
To date, there have been 10 FBS Bowls canceled this year and this leaves only 33 bowls for this season. Seven of the 10 conferences across college football have seen bowl tie-ins either canceled or altered this season.Â
There is no NCAA minimum win total required to qualify for a bowl this season due to the various lengths of schedules for teams and conferences across the nation. The common denominator for all the programs comes down to conference records in order to determine slots assigned by each conference's bowl tie-ins. Before the season started, the Sun Belt Conference determined all bowl selections would be based solely on conference records.
At this current moment, Troy has a 3-3 record in the Sun Belt Conference. In the event of any tie in the final conference standings, head-to-head match-ups are used as the first tiebreakers. The current Sun Belt Conference records can be seen below: Â

- Coastal Carolina (7-0)Â
- Louisiana (7-1)Â
- App State (5-2)Â
- Georgia State (4-4)Â
- Georgia Southern (4-3)Â
- Troy (3-3)Â
A three-way tie between Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Troy would result in the tiebreaker going to Georgia State and Georgia Southern based on their earlier victories over Troy this season. In order to guarantee a spot in a bowl game, Troy would need to win both of our final two games against Coastal Carolina and ULM. This would give Troy five (5) conference wins and a 4th place finish in the Sun Belt Conference. Anything less than this would result in Troy not receiving a Sun Belt Conference bowl berth and most likely not receiving a bowl invitation this year.
With two more wins, Troy is guaranteed a Sun Belt Conference bowl game this year. No matter what happens over the course of these final two home games, we are grateful for your support of our football program. However, if we do not secure one of the five Sun Belt Conference bowl games, we will work with the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN officials to position our football program in the best position possible to be selected for a bowl game.
