TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball's Alexus Dye was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after averaging 21 points and 9 rebounds per game in Troy's three games last week.
Dye earned her first player of the week honor of the season, second of her career, following an impressive week where she recorded back-to-back double-doubles on the road against No. 12 Mississippi State and Middle Tennessee and set a new career-high for points scored with 30 against Middle Tennessee.
Dye, who is averaging a double-double this season, started her strong week by recording her fourth double-double of the season, second career double-double against Mississippi State, with a 20 point and 11 rebound performance before earning double-double number five against Middle Tennessee (30-points, 10 boards). The senior from Birmingham joined teammate Tiyah Johnson as the only two Sun Belt student-athletes to score at least 30-points in a game this season. She closed out Troy's busy week with 13 points and six rebounds against Martin Methodist.
Not only is Dye leading the Sun Belt in double-doubles with five, but she is also the only player in the conference averaging a double-double (19.6 points and 10.0 rebounds) this season. Her 19.6 points per game is the second-best scoring average in the conference. She currently ranks fifth in the league in field goal percentage (.561) and first in defensive rebounds per game (7.9). Nationally she is ranked third in total double-doubles, sixth in made field goals and 22nd in total rebounds.
Dye and Johnson become the first pair of Trojans to earn player of the week honors in consecutive weeks in program history while Troy becomes just the first school since Little Rock during the 2018-19 season to earn back-to-back player of the week honors. It is also the first time since Kayla Robinson won three-straight player of the week honors in 2018 (Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 12) that Troy has been honored in back-to-back weeks.
Troy will be back in action on New Year's Day to begin the Sun Belt Conference season when it hosts App State at 6 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. game against App State on Saturday, Jan. 2.
