TROY, Ala. – A pair of Troy freshmen have been named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Watch List; running Kimani Vidal and bandit Javon Solomon were among the players announced Tuesday by the FWAA.
Â
Vidal has topped the 100-yard mark in back-to-back games and ranks third nationally (min. 35 carries) averaging 7.92 yards per carry. He became just the third true freshman in Troy history to rush for 100 yards in a game and the first to do so in back-to-back games.
Â
The Marietta, Ga., native is fourth among freshmen nationally averaging 75.25 yards per game despite only registering 13 combined carries the first two games of the season. Vidal's 124.5 yards per game in the month of October leads all freshmen and ranks ninth nationally overall.Â
Â
Vidal is averaging 5.47 yards after contact on the season – third nationally among backs with at least 30 carries – and is Troy's highest graded offensive player per Pro Football Focus.Â
Â
Solomon, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., has registered 11 total pressures on the season – second best on the team and third among freshmen nationally. He leads the Trojans with 4.5 tackles for loss on the year while his 1.25 tackles for loss per game are the fourth most nationally among freshmen.
Â
He had recorded a tackle for loss in three of Troy's four games on the season and added his first career sacks this past weekend against Eastern Kentucky. Solomon is Troy's top tackler per PFF with an 83.8 season grade with no missed tackles so far this season.
