Troy Returns Home for Saturday Contest Against Arkansas State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Trojans men's basketball program returns to Trojan Arena Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
Saturday's contest will be a doubleheader, as the Troy women's basketball program will battle UT Arlington at 2:00 before the men's basketball program hits the court at 4:15 p.m.
Troy and Arkansas State will be facing off for the second time in two weeks, as Troy dropped a tight 76-68 overtime contest back on Jan. 11 against ASU.
LAST TIME OUT- (Troy- 8-13, 4-6 Sun Belt)
The Troy Trojans return to Trojan Arena Saturday afternoon, looking to tally Sun Belt Conference victory number this season. Troy has won six of its last eight at Trojan Arena, and is 3-2 at home in SBC play. The Trojans are looking to return to the win column Saturday after falling at first place Little Rock on Wednesday. In that contest, the Trojans enjoyed an early 11-6 advantage, before Little Rock used a 12-4 outburst to take a 28-20 lead. The Trojans responded using a 10-1 run to take a 30-29 lead, but Little Rock's 8-4 run to close the half gave the home team a 37-34 advantage heading into the locker room. In the second half, Little Rock used an early 11-3 run over the first 4:14 of the period to take a 48-37 lead. Troy did cut the Little Rock lead to 60-53 with 9:03 left, but the Arkansas-based Trojans used one last 7-0 run to take a commanding 14-point lead. After being limited to just seven first half minutes due to foul trouble, Ty Gordon responded in the second half, scoring all 14 of his points in the second period. In defeat, junior Nick Stampley scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while forward Davion "Tree" Thomas also added 8 points in his 15 minutes of action.
LAST TIME OUT- (Arkansas State, 14-7, 6-4 Sun Belt)
The Arkansas State Red Wolves enter Saturday's matchup with Troy having won four of five games overall, and back-to-back contests. On Thursday night, the Red Wolves earned a hard fought 75-71 victory. In that game, Arkansas State received strong performances from Marquis Eaton (19 points) and Christian Willis (17 points), as the Red Wolves shot 50 percent (22-44) from the field and made 21-of-26 attempts from the free-throw line. In total, the Red Wolves dished out 21 assists on 22 made baskets and led for nearly 38 minutes. The Red Wolves, who led the contest 60-48 with 8:07, overcame a furious 17-5 South run that tied the game at 65-65 with 2:40 remaining. With the game tied at 67, Willis nailed a 3-pointer that gave Arkansas State a 70-67 advantage with 1:46 left. Down one point with 30 seconds remaining and the ball, Josh Ajayi missed a layup that would have given the visitors their first lead of the game. Four late free throws by Eaton and Melo Eggleston sealed the 75-71 victory for Arkansas State. So far this season, five Red Wolves are averaging at least 9.0 points. Eaton leads the Red Wolves in scoring (12.0) followed by freshman Caleb Field (10.8), Eggleston (10.5) and Canberk Kus (10.5). The Red Wolves are 10-1 this season when scoring 65 points before their opposition, and 14-2 when they shoot at least 40 percent from the field.
Trojan Storylines:
• The Trojans need just one more Sun Belt victory to equal the programs total from a season ago. Last year Troy went 5-13 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Five of Stampley's 10 board were offensive, as the forward helped Troy enjoy a 15-6 advantage on the offensive glass. Stampley was an efficient 3-for-5 from the floor and hit both of his free-throw attempts. Since being reinserted into the starting lineup back on Jan. 6 at Texas State, the Florida native is averaging 8.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Stampley is shooting a blistering 18-of-28 (.667) from the field in that span and has grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.
