Sun Belt Players of the Week
Troy took two of the four Sun Belt weekly honors this week. Cheyenne Hayes garnered Offensive Player of the Week while Amara Anderson was named Setter of the Week.
Hayes had an impressive start to the season and currently leads the conference in kills (57) and points (62.5). Anderson leads the league in assists (128) and registered a double-double in both of Troy's wins.
"[Cheyenne and Amara] are part of us trying to build our team to compete at a higher and higher level," Lauer said. "You have to have those kinds of players to succeed. Every good team has those pieces and us having that in place and seeing it grow and mature is part of us getting to where we want to go."
Freshman Duo Impresses
The Trojans received valuable production from its two freshman starters at the Jax State Invite in Julia Brooks and Ashley Guenveur. The pair combined for 45 kills and have the third and fourth-highest individual kill totals on the team, respectively.
Brooks, who played in all 11 sets Troy played last weekend, was the physical presence the Trojans needed at the net. The St. Louis native tallied eight total blocks, which tied with Anderson for a team high.
Guenveur's .271 attack percentage is the second-best on the team so far this season. The talented freshman also offered a steady mindset when the Trojans needed it most.
"We have some players who wear their emotions on their sleeve," Lauer said. "Ashley is a player that kind of stabilizes that a little bit and that's really good four our team. She just has a really high volleyball IQ for how young she is."
