Making her first career Troy (7-2-3, 2-1-1 Sun Belt) start, freshman Taytum Terrell tallied her first three career goals, while her classmate Gabby Cossette made three saves in her 45 first-half minutes of work to earn her first career victory.
After a wide-open first five minutes of the match that saw ULM (3-6-2, 0-3 Sun Belt) tally five early shots, the Trojans gained control of the match recording three first half strikes.
In the ninth minute of the match freshman Melissa Kuya-Strobel took a Nathali DaSilva pass down the left-center part of the 18-yard box and found the back of the net.
Just eight minutes later, DaSilva scored herself, after a perfect Kiersten Edlund corner kick.
With time running out in the first half, freshman Juliane Hester found the score sheet in the 41st minute when her shot eluded the Warhawks keeper.
Enjoying a 3-0 halftime advantage, Terrell and the Trojans took the game over in the second half as the freshman scored three goals (56th, 63rd and 76th minutes) in just 20 minutes.
A 78th minute goal from KK Pawelczyk closed the scoring for the home side, who improved to 4-0-1 at home this season.
Cossette and junior Haleigh Mercer split the time between the pipes, recording four combined saves.
Troy returns to action Friday evening when Sun Belt leading South Alabama visits Troy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night's game will serve as Troy's Cancer Awareness game, and all fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink.
NOTEWORTHY:
• The Trojans end the weekend in third place in the Sun Belt Conference are just three points behind South Alabama (3-0-1, 10 points) for the top-spot. Arkansas State (3-0-0, 9 points) is currently second in the conference, just one point ahead of Troy.
• Troy has scored 29 total goals this season.
• Sunday's seven goals are the most Troy has scored this season. The Trojans also scored seven goals in an opening 7-0 victory over Jackson State (Aug. 23).
• The Trojans have outscored opponents 19-2 at home this season in five matches. Troy scored just 19 goals all of last season (20 matches).
• Five of Troy's seven goals were scored by true freshmen.
• Terrell's hat trick was the second hat trick recorded by a Trojan this season. DaSilva previously recorded a hat trick against Jackson State (Aug. 23).
• DaSilva recorded three points on Sunday (goal, two assists) for the first time in her career.
• Edlund now has a Sun Belt best eight assists this season. She recorded a pair of assists in both games this weekend.
• The senior captains needs just two more assists to tie the all-time program record (10 assists) set by Alissa Jones in 2014.
• Mercer raised her total saves count to 54 today. Her 50 saves entering the weekend were the 32nd best total in the NCAA.
• Hester, Pawelczyk, Terrell all scored their first career goal.
GED TALKS:
"If you look at the first 20-minutes of the game, we came out a little bit flat. I think we were fortunate to have a 2-0 lead. We started the game out with two shots that resulted in goals early on, which helped settle things down for us. It was another really hot day and it was a quick turnaround after a physical match on Friday. Overall it was a very good team performance. Out of the seven goals we scored today, five were recorded by freshman, which is a really good sign for the future of this program. So it was another good performance for our group. Both teams seemed to come out without any injuries which is an important thing. We now leave the weekend having earned all six points, which was the goal coming in. Now we look to turn the page to [South Alabama and Georgia Southern] next weekend."
On Taytum Terrell's Performance:
"We started today with two freshmen forwards, both of whom tore their ACLs within a month of each other last year. So both Melissa [Kuya-Strobel] and Taytum have had long recoveries. It's always nice to score, but it was more important for Taytum to get over the injury. Today was a big step. She knows her job is to score goals for us, and today she actually did that in a game for the first time. Hopefully she has even more confidence going forward."
