Football Practices in Pads for First Time

TROY, Alabama -- The Troy football team practiced in pads for the first time this fall during its two-hour workout Sunday morning on the practice fields behind Trojan Arena. Wearing shoulder pads and helmets, the Trojans battled the Alabama heat for 22 periods as they work towards Tuesday's first off day in camp.
Head coach Chip Lindsey continued his strategic installation of the offense, defense and special teams with the Trojans spending extended periods on kickoff and kickoff return during the early portion of Sunday's practice. The Trojans continued to work on red zone situations during their team drills, and Sunday's practice session featured the most team drills of camp so far.
The Trojans will practice again on Monday to complete their run of four straight days (two in helmets and two in shells) before taking Tuesday off as a recovery day. Troy will return for practices on Wednesday thru Friday before Saturday's first scrimmage of fall camp which will as double as Troy's annual Media Day.

"First day in pads and I was pleased. I thought the offense tried to respond from yesterday and we were more physical up front on both sides. The defense is still doing a great job of flying around to the ball. We've got a lot of guys playing with great effort and we're really pushing them to get on and off the field. Overall, really pleased with day three.
"We try and go off the NFL model where we go three or four days in a row and then take a day to catch a lot of video. Tomorrow we'll continue with our fourth day of install then we get to the break on Tuesday and regroup from there, and polish one more time before we get a chance to scrimmage on Saturday.
