Troy Downs Southeastern Louisiana In Season Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Troy (1-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) won it's first match of the season Friday afternoon after sweeping Southeastern Louisiana, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 26-24). The Trojans are now 2-1 in season openers under head coach Josh Lauer.
The Trojans were led by Cheyenne Hayes and Halston Hillier who tallied 17 and 11 kills, respectively. Amara Anderson added 39 assists and 11 digs for Troy.
"It was a fun start to the season," head coach Josh Lauer said. "We showed some grit late in sets and that was the big difference maker for us."
How It Happened
Troy came out ready to play and took set one in dominating fashion 25-14, paced by 8 kills from Hayes. The Trojans posted an impressive .615 attack percentage as a team in the first set.
The Lions battled back in set two, but Troy held firm, taking the set, 25-23.
The Trojans came from behind in the third set to complete their sweep over Southeastern Louisiana. After falling behind 19-23, Troy went on a 7-1 run to close out the match.
Hillier was the offensive spark the Trojans needed, recording eight of her 11 kills in the final set. Anderson and Jeffcoat anchored the Trojans defensively, recording 5 and 4 digs, respectively.
"It was a great team effort and I'm proud of our team," Lauer said. "We had a nice team effort and great energy from our bench."

Troy returns to action tonight against Jacksonville State. First serve for that match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
