TROY, Alabama – Troy battled a hot Alabama Saturday morning as the Trojans practiced for two hours on the new turf inside The Vet which included the team's second scrimmage of the preseason. The Trojans ran approximately 100 plays during the scrimmage as the season opener against Campbell looms just two weeks down the road.
Â
"We had a good second scrimmage and both sides made plays at times and both sides have things to clean up," head coach Chip Lindsey said. "I was really pleased with how we responded on the (offensive line), we ended up having some penalties towards the end that I didn't like, but overall I thought they played better.
Â
"Defensively, we were pretty good up front putting pressure on the quarterback," Lindsey said. "We came down and did a red zone period inside the 5-yard line and Carlton (Martial) made some really good plays – I'm sure he had a lot of help – but he just seems to find the ball."
Â
Saturday's practice marked Troy's 13thsince players returns to campus to start the month. The Trojans had 10 days of practices before school started on Wednesday and now the focus turns to the opener against Campbell.
Â
"I thought Kaleb (Barker) made some plays today in the passing game and made good decisions with the exception on one," Lindsey said. "We had some guys make the plays down the field with Demontrez (Brown) and Bret Clark making some nice catches. Now we're in preparation mode for Campbell in week one and got a lot of work to do but we are a little bit ahead which is good."
Â
The Trojans continued their busy Saturday with a stop at Trojan Arena in the afternoon for the annual Fan Day celebration where the players and coaches signed autographs.
