TROY, Ala. – Two Trojan student-athletes will be competing on track & field's national stage this weekend. Matthew Likely and Naquita Williams will perform against the sport's best at the 2019 USATF National Championships and Canadian Outdoor Track & Field Championships, respectively.
Williams, a Chateauguay, Quebec native, will compete in the women's hammer throw Saturday in Montréal. The sophomore has a personal best of 58.25m in the event.
"We're excited to have Naquita representing Troy at Canada's national championships," director Marc Davis said. "She's had a busy summer after representing Canada at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mexico City earlier this summer. Her hard work with Coach Clayton is paying off greatly this year and it shows."
Likely will represent Troy in Des Moines, Iowa at the 2019 USATF National Championships in the 200m. The junior from Evergreen, Ala. has a personal best of 20.49 and was an NCAA semifinalist in the event last season.
"Matt really came into his own last season and competed at a world-class level," Davis said. "He will be competing against the world's best in the 200m this weekend and it will be exciting to see him compete with those athletes."
