TROY, Alabama – Troy center fielder Logan Cerny has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team powered by Diamond, the magazine announced Wednesday.
Â
Cerny finished his rookie campaign with a .267/.336/.495 slash line with 12 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 42 RBIs. His home run total was the most by a Troy freshman since Jorge Soto blasted 16 homers during the 1997 season – Soto is Troy's record holder with 65 career home runs.
Â
"Logan had a great freshman year and being named an All-American is a significant accomplishment," head coach Mark Smartt said. "He posted solid extra base numbers and was second on our team in RBI. He was also second in stolen bases and played exceptional defense in center field without making an error. Logan becomes the fifth freshman to earn All-America status since 2001."
Â
The native of Lawrenceville, Ga., started 54 games for the Trojans and did not commit an error all season long while adding five outfield assists. Cerny also used his plus speed as a weapon stealing 13 bases in 16 attempts and only grounding into one double play.
Â
Cerny finished the season with 16 multiple-hit games and was tied for second on the team with 11 multi-RBI games. He hit a grand slam in Troy's series finale at Coastal Carolina which propelled the Trojans to a victory and jumpstarted a run of 16 wins over their final 25 league games.
Â
This marks the second straight year that a Troy player has earned Freshman All-America honors after Rigsby Mosley's recognition in 2018 – a Troy player has earned Freshman All-America honors in four of the last six seasons.
