Troy Trio Named to ABCA All-Region Team

TROY, Alabama – Chase Smartt was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region First Team while Drew Frederic and Rigsby Mosley were tabbed to the second team, the ABCA announced Wednesday.

Smartt posted a .343/.406/.523 slash line with 21 doubles, six home runs and 41 RBIs during the 2019 season. His double total currently ranks as the 31stmost in the country and will go down as the ninth most in a season in school history.

The Collegiate Baseball All-American walked more times (25) than he struck out (22) and finished the year as the toughest player in the Sun Belt Conference to strikeout – just once every 9.8 at-bats.Â

The Troy native put together one of the best final two months in the country at the plate. Smartt posted a .415 batting average with 14 doubles, all six of his home runs and 23 RBIs in the final 23 games of the season. He was named the National Hitter of the Week during that stretch and had multiple hits in 12 games and multiple RBIs seven times.Â

Frederic finished the season with a .318/.410/.527 slash line and led the Trojans with 11 home runs and tied Mosley for the team lead with 28 extra-base hits. A native of Niceville, Fla., Frederic ranked fifth in the Sun Belt with 78 hits, third with 59 runs scored and third with 20 stolen bases.

The Troy shortstop ranks 22ndamong active players with 60 career stolen bases which is the 10thmost among players projected to return for the 2020 season. Frederic will enter his senior season sixth all-time in Troy history in runs scored, eighth in hits and seventh in stolen bases.

Mosley finished the season as the Sun Belt Conference's batting champion after posting a .356 batting average for the season. A native of Maitland, Fla., the Troy left fielder slugged .554 and posted a .430 on-base percentage in addition to smacking 19 doubles, two triples and seven home runs.

Mosley's 79 hits on the year ranked as the fourth most in the Sun Belt while his 19 doubles were fourth most and his 2.24 total bases per game checked in as the sixth most.
