Fátima Fernández Cano Qualifies for U.S. Women’s Open

TROY, Alabama – Fátima Fernández Cano, one of the most decorated women's golfers in Troy University history, has qualified for next week's (May 29 - June 2) U.S. Women's Open at the Country Club of Charleston.
Cano finished third with a 7-under 137 at the U.S. Women's Open Sectional earlier this month at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta to earn her spot at the 74th U.S. Women's Open. The field features 47 of the top 50 players in the current Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings and 13 past champions.
Cano has spent the last two seasons on the Symetra Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA, and has turned in four top 10s including a tie for sixth at the Symetra Classic two weeks ago with a 2-under 214.
During her career at Troy, Cano became the first four-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection in Troy history, was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and the 2016 Sun Belt Golfer of the Year. She won eight individual titles during her career including the Sun Belt Conference title as a freshman; five of her victories came during her junior season.
Cano holds three of the top four lowest stroke averages in Troy history and her 73.89 career average is the best in school history. She led Troy to three Sun Belt Conference championships during her career and played in an NCAA Regional in all four of her seasons.
