Philadelphia, Pa. – Troy set two school records in the first day of track & field competition at the historic 125th running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Friday evening.Â

SCHOOL RECORDS
The 4x400m relay team consisting of seniors Niata Alexander and Tiarra Bailey and sophomores Madison Kennedy and Precious Ogba set the Troy all-time record in 3:40.15. The Trojans finished second in their heat to advance to the College Women's 4x400 Championship of America Invitational on Saturday at 1:13 p.m. CT.Â

Freshmen Tanner Guest and Maya Kelly, sophomore Macki Walsh and junior Gemma Finch teamed up to run the women's distance medley race and finished in a new school record time of 12:00.14. The teams' time is more than 23 seconds faster than previous school record set at the Florida Relays earlier this season.Â

RELAY
In the 4x100m relay race, Alexander, Kelly and seniors Gabrielle Henderson and Sydney Henderson combined to finish in 45.55 seconds, placing them first in their heat. Overall, the team finished fifth in the event which is lands the team a spot in the College Women's 4x100 Championship of America Invitational on Friday at 11:55 a.m. CT.Â

Additionally, the teams' time places them third in Troy's all-time record book.Â

THROWS
Freshman Samara Nelson launched a season best 14.34 meters to land in seventh in the shot put. In the hammer throw collegiate division, senior Helga Volgyi finished fifth out of 31 throwers with a distance of 53.30 meters.Â

Sophomore Naquita Williams finished ninth in the hammer throw championship with a distance of 57.31 meters.Â
