Troy Dominates in Singles Over New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The success in away matches continued as Troy(13-1) men's tennis defeated New Orleans(6-6), 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the University Tennis Center. Troy won the meeting between the two sides 4-1 last season, and The Trojans have not lost to the Privateers in the last 11 meetings between the two sides.
Starting with doubles, The Trojans were able to pull off its only win as it came from No.1 duo Jorge Poyatos and Christopher Tasker. They defeated Fomenkov and Westkamp, 6-3. Jiaqi Duan and Pelayo Antuna were short in doubles against their opponents, as well as Manuel Bernard and Oskar Michalek.
The team pulled themselves together after doubles as the Trojans won all of the singles matches. Pelayo Antuna defeated Fomenkov, while Oskar Michalek won his three-set match, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Manuel Bernard defeated Klein, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Jiaqi Duan came back to the roster and won his match in an easy manner, 6-1, 6-3. Christopher Tasker defeated Kramer, 6-1, 6-4. Antonio Selma shined in the singles play as he defeated his opponent from New Orleans in two tiebreakers, 7-6, 7-6.
The Trojans will finish the non-conference schedule against Florida A&M on Mar.13 before stepping in Sun Belt Conference play. Troy will host three conference games in a row starting with Coastal Carolina on Mar. 23.
