Troy Advances to Finals of HEB Invitational

Troy clinched a tough win against New Mexico State in the quarterfinals and defeated Tennessee Tech in the semifinals to advance in the final of HEB Invitational.
Despite losing the doubles point, the Trojans were able to regroup and shine in singles play to collect four team points to win the game. The duo of Pelayo Antuna and Jiaqi Duan defeated Louis Menard and Enrique Asmar, 6-1.
Jiaqi Duan was the first one to save a point for the team as he defeated Enrique Asmar, 6-2, 6-2. Antonio Selma lost his singles match in two sets, 6-2, 6-4, giving the 2-1 lead to the Aggies. Top three seeds in the singles play had to go through three sets to decide the winner, and in all three times, the Trojans were able to outplay their opponents. Pelayo Antuna has defeated Stijn de Haan from Netherlands, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Oskar Michalek made an impressive comeback as the junior was down 5-0 in the third set. Michalek saved two match points and clinched the win in a tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6. Freshman Manuel Bernard saved another match point in the third set and defeated Martin Simecek, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Troy started its second dual match of the day with singles against Tennessee Tech. Jorge Poyatos appeared at No.6 spot and lost the match in two sets, 6-1, 7-6. Two of the Trojans lost their matches in the third set thrillers. However, the win from No.2 seed Oskar Michalek and No.1 seed Pelayo Antuna were enough to equalize the team scores to 3-3. Jiaqi Duan was able to defeat Wenceslao Albin, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Michalek clinched the last singles win for its team by defeating Grubert, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
The ticket to the finals was decided after the doubles clash, where Jiaqi Duan and Pelayo Antuna defeated Wenceslao Albin and Riku Kubota from Tennessee Tech, 7-6. The second win came from Bernard and Michalek as they defeated Tosetto and Silva in a fast manner, 6-1.
