TROY, Ala. -- Sophomore defender Kate Eubanks was named a second team All-Southeast Region selection, the United Soccer Coaches Association announced Monday. The defender is Troy's first United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection since Alissa Jones and Mikki Lewis earned the recognition back in 2014.
"The honor is a result of Kate's hard work," head coach Ged O'Connor said. "I think this honor is also a testament to our performance this season. We only lost three matches all year, which shows a lot of stability in your backline. Kate was one the driving forces behind our success defensively. And then she showed an ability to score goals off of set-pieces. She's a great person, great student and great athlete. The honor is well deserved. Hopefully next year she can build on this and get on the first team."
A key member of a Trojan defense that allowed just 19 goals in 19 matches this season, Eubanks played in all 19 matches for the Trojans this season, scoring three goals and tallying a pair of assists. The Mobile, Ala. native missed just played 1766 of Troy's 1807 minutes this season, playing a complete 90-minutes in 17 of 19 matches.
Troy completed the season with an overall record of 12-3-4. Troy's seven Sun Belt Conference victories were the most in school history, and the 12 overall victories were the most by a Trojan squad since 2015. Troy concluded the regular season on an eight-match unbeaten streak, before falling in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Eubanks was also named a first team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, the program first since Lewis and Jones earned the recognition back in 2015.
"Championships are won on defense," O'Connor added. "Having a great back-line and goalkeeper is key to having a strong defense. Between Kate, Rina, Noelle and Tully we have quite a bit returning which should be important for us. We hope that we can continue to build off this season and develop this program into a consistent winner over the next few years."
