TROY, Ala. – In their first full recruiting cycle, Troy head coach Chip Lindsey and his staff signed the highest-rated recruiting class in school history with the addition of 24 players to the Trojan roster Wednesday.
Troy's class ranked in the top 75 nationally and top 10 in the Group of Five by mid-afternoon Wednesday on 247Sports and the players carried an average rating of 82.49 with 17 three-star signees. Troy's 2019 class, which was the highest ranked in program history, ranked 80th nationally with an 82.00 average per player.
"We're really excited about the class," Lindsey said. "What we really tried to focus on was getting the right fit for us, the right fit for Troy. Obviously, a lot of that has to do with on the field, but also the kind of kids they are. We refer to our guys as 'TKG' or 'Troy Kinda Guys' and we really wanted to do a lot of research on these guys and make sure they what we need on and off the field.
"When we really looked at this class, we really needed to sign offensive linemen and we signed six of them and two of them being older guys. We also had a need in the defensive back field, which we addressed, those two areas were the biggest focus for us."
The Trojans beefed up both their offensive and defensive lines with the addition of 11 total players in the trenches – six on offense and five on defense. Toryque Bateman and Jordan Chapman are a pair of JUCO linemen who will be looked upon to fill a pair of the three vacant starting spots on the offensive line, while Luis Medina, Cam Williams and Quincey Miller all rank near the top 100 players in the country at their position on the defensive front.
Another big position opening heading into 2020 is at the quarterback position, and Troy added a pair of big-time additions at the position Wednesday.
NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and two-time first team All-American Parker McNeil, who threw for 5,635 yards and 56 touchdowns in 21 career games at Navarro College, signed with Troy Wednesday. The Trojans also welcomed two-time Georgia state champion Kyle Toole, who completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 5,749 yards and 63 touchdowns with just four interceptions in his career at Lee County High School.
The Trojans also bolstered their offensive backfield with the addition of Georgia 7A State Championship Game MVP Kimani Vidal. He averaged 105.9 yards per game and scored 24 touchdowns in just 15 games to lead Marietta High School to its first state title since 1967.
Troy hit the state of Georgia hard with eight signees from the state including 1-1A Player of the Year in safety Darrell Starling in addition to Vidal, Toole, Miller, Medina and Williams.
