LOGAN, Utah – One week after battling No. 20 Missouri to the wire, Troy struggled in its final non-conference game of the season, falling 21-10 to Utah State on Saturday night at Maverik Stadium.

The Trojans (2-2) led 10-7 at the half but turned the ball over twice and missed a pair of field goals in the second half, while the Aggies (1-3) scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the half.

Troy turned the ball over four times and lost for just the second time in the past 12 games when rushing for more than 100 yards; the Trojans finished with 169 yards on the ground, paced by 66 yards on 11 carries from Gavin Griffin.

Grady Brosterhous completed 18-of-28 passes for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while rushing 15 times for 89 yards to lead the Aggies. Utah State outgained Troy, 413-395, on the night.

Brosterhous connected with Javon Robinson on the Aggies' first play from scrimmage for a 57-yard touchdown pass, and the Trojans held the home team off the board until consecutive drives to open the third quarter.

Goose Crowder, who completed 25-of-49 passes for 226 yards, tied the game on Troy's ensuing drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Howard Kinchen. Crowder thought he had his second scoring strike of the opening half, this one to TK Keyes, as the original call on the field was a touchdown. However, replay overturned the call, and Troy settled for a 45-yard field goal.

Troy opens Sun Belt Conference play against Southern Miss on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in The Vet. The game will be televised on ESPN2 as the Trojans look to extend their winning streak over the Golden Eagles to six straight.

It's really hard when you see your football team not perform and play at the level you've seen them play at. It's pretty simple. I told the guys that we got outplayed in all three phases. Their offense manufactured 21 points and ran the ball for 171 yards against a defense that I fully believe can contain it. They did an excellent job scheming against us. They kept everything under control with their quarterback, and the turnover margin was critical.

I don't want to hear anything about a plane ride. We just looked unconnected and distracted. It started poorly and finished that way. With Goose, it'll just be a matter of watching the tape. He had to be risky and take some shots late, but there was stuff that he will own.

I'll take full responsibility for not playing at the level we need. Now, we need to take the next bit of time to get healthy. These guys need a bit of time away, and then we need to gear up for Sun Belt play to achieve our goal of winning a title.

Notable
• This was Troy's first-ever meeting against a Pac-12 opponent as a member of the conference.
• Nick Hampton (TE) made his first career start at Troy; he is the third different tight end to start a game this year following injuries to Jackson Worley and Fabian Rogosch. Hampton is 20th player to make his first Troy start through the first four games of the season.
• Goose Crowder connected with Howard Kinchen for a 13-yard touchdown pass on Troy's second drive of the game; it was Kinchen's second touchdown reception of the season and Crowder's seventh touchdown pass.
• Goose Crowder has thrown a touchdown pass in 13 career games and all four games this season.
• Goose Crowder completed 25-of-49 passes; it was the most attempts of his career and the second-most completions. He also threw three interceptions for just the second time of his career (Clemson, 2025).
• Noreel White caught a career-best six passes for 75 yards, while Howard Kinchen also finished with a career-best six receptions. Five of Kinchen's six receptions came in the first quarter.
• Donnie Smith recorded his fourth sack of the season and now has a sack in each game in 2026. He entered the week leading the country with a sack in 12 games over the past two seasons and at least a half tackle for loss in 15 games the last two seasons.
• Jamarion Keyes recorded his first career interception; he also recorded a career-high and team-best nine tackles.
• Justin Powe forced his second career fumble (James Madison, 2025), finished with seven tackles and a tackle for loss.
• Evan Crenshaw had a 52-yard punt; his seventh this season of 50-plus yards.
