TROY, Ala. – The 2020 Troy baseball schedule, which includes 30 home games, appearances in three Minor League stadiums and a home series against Arkansas, was released Wednesday by head coach Mark Smartt.
Â
A two-game midweek series against an Arkansas team coming off back-to-back College World Series appearances highlights the Trojans' home schedule. Troy's road schedule includes a three-game series at Florida and a trip to Pensacola, Florida to compete in the Pensacola Cox Diamond Invitational.
Â
"We are fortunate that Arkansas has agreed to play in Troy," Smartt said. "It will present a great opportunity for our team to play against one of the best programs in America. The trip to Florida and Pensacola should be great for our fans. Florida is one of the premier teams in the country and contend for Omaha every year."
Â
The Trojans open the 2020 campaign with a four-game series against Northern Kentucky at Riddle-Pace Field (Feb. 14-16). Troy then hits the road for the first time for a game against Alabama (Feb. 18) in Tuscaloosa.
Â
A five-game homestand follows with Jackson State (Feb. 19), Louisiana Tech (Feb. 21-23) and Alabama State (Feb. 25).
Â
Ten of Troy's next 12 games come away from Riddle-Pace Field, highlighted by a three-game series against Florida in Gainesville (Feb. 28-March 1). Troy then returns home for in-state matchups with UAB (March 3) and Alabama A&M (March 4).
Â
The Trojans then head to Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Florida for the Pensacola Cox Diamond Invitational against Michigan State (March 6), Samford (March 7) and Louisiana (March 8). The following Tuesday (March 10), Troy hosts Southern Miss at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. Troy's first Sun Belt Conference series comes on the road against Georgia Southern (March 13-15) before finally returning home for a conference series against Little Rock (March 20-22).
Â
Arkansas makes its first trip to Riddle-Pace Field since 2007 for a highly anticipated two-game series March 24 and 25.
Â
Troy's next two Sun Belt series come on the road against UT Arlington (March 27-29) and Arkansas State (April 3-5) with a home midweek game against Jacksonville State (March 31) sandwiched in between. After that, Georgia State makes the trek to Troy (April 9-11) for the Trojans' fifth conference series of the season.
Â
A difficult travel schedule looms for the Trojans in mid-April as Troy makes its second trip back to Riverwalk Stadium on April 14 against Alabama State. The next day, the Trojans head to Jacksonville, Alabama to face Jacksonville State (April 15) for a second time before heading to Boone, North Carolina for a three-game series with Appalachian State (April 17-19). The road trip concludes with a game at Regions Field in Birmingham against UAB (April 21).
Â
From that point on, 10 of Troy's final 13 games take place within the friendly confines of Riddle-Pace Field including series against Coastal Carolina (April 24-26) and Texas State (May 1-3). Samford visits the Trojans for a midweek contest (April 28) between the two series.
Â
Troy makes its final trip of the season to Monroe, Louisiana for a series against ULM (May 8-10) before closing out the regular season at home against in-state rival South Alabama (May 14-16). The 2020 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held in Montgomery, Alabama in Riverwalk Stadium starting May 19 and concluding May 24.
Â
Quotable – Troy Head Coach Mark Smartt
"The 2020 schedule is filled with great opportunity to compete against quality teams and programs throughout the season. This team must learn how to win on the road with five of six series away from home beginning in week three of the season. That stretch of 16-of-24 games on the road will be difficult, but we finish with 10 of our last 13 games at Riddle-Pace Field, and we have been a solid home team through the years. The Sun Belt continues to improve, and every series is a sincere challenge whether it's home or away. The quality of the non-conference schedule will prepare our team for the demanding 30-game conference schedule starting March 13. Opening Day cannot get here fast enough!"
