NASHVILLE – Elisabeth Preus and ShaeLee Scarberry each carded an even-par 70 to lead Troy in Monday's opening round of the Town & Country Invitational at the McCabe Golf Course. The Trojans are in second place and just a shot off the pace heading into Tuesday's final round.
Troy led the field in both par 4 (+5) and par 5 (-1) scoring and carded the second-most birdies in the field with 11. Preus' 2-under on the par-4 holes was tops among the 49 golfers in the field and her four birdies were tied for the most.
Preus and Scarberry are tied for third place and just a shot behind a pair tied for the lead at 1-under par. Both Trojans made the turn at 1-under and Scarberry was 2-under heading to the 17thtee box while Preus was 2-under heading to the No. 15 tee.
Nicole Lorup added a pair of birdies and shot 2-under on the par-70 course to finish the day tied for ninth place. Anna Claire Little and Judith Castro each had one birdie in rounds of 74 to sit tied for 20thplace. Playing as an individual, Ainsley Cowart shot 8-over with a birdie to finish the day tied for 38thplace.
Teams will once again play together for the final round, and Troy will hit the course at 11 a.m. for Tuesday's final 18 holes.
