10/27/2019 9:07:00 PM | Baseball
TROY, Ala. – Troy split a pair of seven-inning games with UAH Sunday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojan bats were hot in game one as Troy picked up a 16-7 win over the Chargers but fell silent in a 3-2 loss in game two.
The games conclude Troy's fall scrimmages against outside competition, but still have 13 intrasquad scrimmages remaining this fall. Wednesday, the Trojans will play in their annual costume game at 6 p.m. Admission for that game is a canned good item.
Game One (Troy 16, UAH 7)
Troy scored at least one run in every inning except the sixth in the first game of the day and finished with 13 hits, batting .394 as a team. DJ Wilkinson picked up the win on the mound for Troy, recording three strikeouts in three innings.
The Trojans struck first with one run in the bottom of the first inning but opened up an 8-5 lead with four runs in the third. Logan Cerny and Kyle Mock each batted in one run while Reed Smith blasted a three-run homer with a full count. Troy backed up its four-run third inning with a five-run fourth inning, aided by a Hunter Mercer home run.
Four Trojans finished the game with multiple hits. Caleb Bartolero and Mock each connected three times while Cerny and Smith each had two.
Game Two (Troy 2, UAH 3)
The pitchers shined in a much lower scoring game two. Dalton Wilder earned the start for the Trojans while Marquez Oates and Lance Johnson each made appearances from the bullpen. Wilder and Oates combined to strike out seven in the game.
The Chargers struck first in the top of the first inning and took a 2-0 lead after adding another run in the third. The Trojans got on the board in the fifth inning when Jesse Hall drove in a run to make it a one-run game.
A sac fly from Brady Sherrill drove in the tying run in the sixth inning. UAH would respond, however, taking the lead for good with one run in the top of the seventh inning.
