Tyler Sumpter Named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy junior kicker Tyler Sumpter has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in Troy's victory over South Alabama in the "Battle for the Belt" last Wednesday.

A native of Hoover, Ala., Sumpter connected on three field goals and finished the game with 13 points after also netting four extra-points. Sumpter has now made three field goals in each of Troy's two Sun Belt games this season and leads the league with 3.0 field goals per game in league play.

Sumpter has hit all 104 extra-point attempts in his career and is one of just five active players nationally with at least 100 extra-points without a miss.

The player of the week honor is the fifth of Sumpter's career; he tied the Sun Belt record with three straight awards last year before adding a fourth later in the season.

Troy travels to Atlanta this weekend for a big Sun Belt East Division matchup with Georgia State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (ET) and Troy will host a pregame tailgate party and pep rally from 5-6:30 p.m.
