JONESBORO, Ark. -- The Troy Trojans soccer program battled the Arkansas State Red Wolves to a 1-1 draw at a damp and cold A-State Park Friday afternoon.
Â
After falling behind in the fourth minute 1-0, the Trojans (9-2-4, 4-1-2 Sun Belt) answered the Red Wolves (7-4-2, 3-1-2 Sun Belt) strike with a goal in the 14th minute.
Â
Freshman Caroline Tully made a strong run down the left-hand side of the box and crossed a perfect ball that found classmate Melissa Kuya-Strobel, who buried a shot into the bottom-right corner of the net.
Â
Troy's next best chance to score came in the 24th minute when Arkansas State goalkeeper Megan McClure illegally possessed the ball in the 18-yard box after a pass backwards from a defender.
Â
The result of the infraction was Trojans free-kick from deep inside the Red Wolves box. On the attempt, senior Kiersten Edlund fired a shot that just went over the goal.
Â
Following the halftime break, neither Troy nor A-State were able to find the back of the net. The two sides battled for two additional overtime periods with neither side able to find the golden goal.
Â
Troy returns to action next on Thursday, hosting Little Rock. Kickoff from Troy Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.
