TROY, Ala. – After opening the season with two home games for the first time since 2013, Troy hits the road Saturday for a date with Nebraska in Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live on Big Ten Network.
Troy (1-1) travels to Lincoln, the site of the Trojans' first-ever game at the FBS level back in 2001, coming off a 59-7 thrashing of Florida A&M last weekend. Junior quarterback Kaleb Barker accounted for five touchdowns, the Trojans rushed for 292 yards and the Troy defense forced four turnovers in the victory.
"I thought our energy was at a much higher level," head coach Neal Brown said of his team's effort last weekend. "FAMU broke one in the open and Tron Folsom and Marcus Jones had a great effort play to track the running back down. I still think that we can take it up another notch, and I think that we can strain a little bit more."
Troy's defense played more like itself against the Rattlers with 14 tackles for loss, its most since 2015, and the Trojans now rank 10 nationally in tackles for loss heading into the weekend. Folsom intercepted two passes, returned one for a touchdown and added 1.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage.
The Trojans have played well on the road the past two seasons with a 9-3 record away from home, including a victory over No. 22 LSU – two of the losses came at the hands of No. 2 Clemson and Boise State. Troy's current five-game road winning streak is the fourth-longest active streak nationally.
Troy and Nebraska (0-1) have not met since 2006, and the Trojans are looking to snap a string of back-to-back shutouts by the Cornhuskers.
"We want to win the game and we are playing the game to win but we have to continue to get better," Brown said. "We have to make sure we play good fundamental football, if we do that I think we will have an opportunity. They are a high-level opponent and they provide some major challenges for us on offense and defense."
