ATHENS, Georgia – Corey Childress, Joey Denison and Drew Frederic each earned NCAA Athens Regional All-Tournament Team honors, as announced Monday night.
A senior, Childress fanned a career-high nine batters in his final outing in a Troy uniform to lead the Trojans in their opening-round win over Duke on Friday night. He allowed just three hits over six innings and combined with Andrew Crane for a shutout of the Blue Devils – who ran the table after the loss and advanced to the Super Regional round.
All-American and Sun Belt Player of the Year Joey Denison finished his Trojan career on fire – batting 6-for-12 with seven RBI and four runs scored in the Regional. Denison ended with a career-long and team-best 20-game hitting streak and became the first player in school history to collect over 80 RBI in a single season.
Frederic, after not hitting a single round-tripper in 2017, launched two homers in the tournament to finish the year with a team-leading seven. The third baseman also recorded three assists in each of the three Regional games without committing error.
Troy's season ended Sunday with a 42-21 record following its seventh trip to the NCAA Division I Regionals. The 42 wins are the sixth-most in school history and the Trojans closed out the season with a school-record 30 triples.
