TROY, Alabama – The sixth annual Trojan Tour presented by Guardian Credit Union concluded recently with its final of nine stops in the state of Alabama and in the Florida Panhandle.
Â
To celebrate the success of an incredible year in Troy Athletics, Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain, eight different coaches and voice of the Trojans Barry McKnight traveled nearly 1,200 miles to visit and thank fans and alumni for their support.
Â
The Tour began in Troy then made stops in Birmingham, Dothan, Greenville, Mobile, Enterprise, Montgomery, Pensacola and Ft. Walton. With the various coaches representing several sports, a plethora of subjects were discussed to recap the 2017-2018 year and give those in attendance excitement for things to come.
Â
Included on the trip were several in-studio television and radio appearances by head football coach Neal Brown in Birmingham, Dothan and Mobile. In addition, various newspaper and TV outlets covered the Tour at each stop along the way.
Â
Brown covered one of the more exciting topics – the new North End Zone project at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Fans will be treated to new experiences starting September 1 against Boise State with seating in the end zone and the gigantic video board.
Â
Troy volleyball's Josh Lauer and his staff signed the highest-rated recruiting class in program history and discussed the impact that the new signees will have on the program this year. The Trojans will begin their 2018 campaign on August 24 in Trojan Arena with the Troy Invitational.
Â
Phil Cunningham and Chanda Rigby of the men's and women's basketball teams gave fans a ton to look forward to this winter. The women signed one of the top recruiting classes in the nation and the men will look to Jordon Varnado and Alex Hicks to replace the star power of all-time great Wesley Person.
Â
Troy baseball head coach Mark Smartt answered questions about the club's thrilling run to the NCAA Regionals this season that included 42 wins, numerous school records shattered, two All-American selections and three former players drafted in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Â
Overall, there were several individual and departmental accomplishments this year. Women's tennis coach Rawia Elsisi was named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year, Neal Brown was named the Sun Belt Football Coach of the Year and the Athletics Department had a record finish in the conference's Bubas Cup standings.
