Troy and Mississippi State Meet in the Hoover Classic

TROY, Alabama – Troy and Mississippi State will meet halfway Wednesday night for a showdown in the 2018 Hoover Classic at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium; first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Trojans (32-16) dropped two of three at Georgia Southern last weekend but still come in as one of the top 45 baseball teams in the country with a legitimate chance to reach an NCAA Regional at the end of the season. At 38 in the RPI is Mississippi State (26-22), setting up a battle between two teams "on the bubble" when considering postseason play.
Meeting for just the fifth time in history, Troy is winless against the Bulldogs – including an 8-10 loss in Starkville in the final week of the 2017 season.
A well-rounded offensive attack will lead the Trojans at the plate. Matt Sanders leads the country with 66 runs scored, most of those driven in by Joey Denison, who ranks 15th with 55 RBIs this season. The top five batters in the Trojan lineup are all batting over .315 – combining for a .340 average.
Junior righty Sadler Goodwin (3-4, 6.98) is scheduled to make his sixth start of the year on the mound. Goodwin has thrown the required five innings on the mound in three of his five starts – allowing a combined four earned runs in those three outings.
Ticket prices are $5 for general admission for adults and children three years and older. Children two years and under can get in the game for free. A "Family 4 Pack" ticket is also available, which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four drinks and a bucket of popcorn for $40.
These tickets are available for purchase HERE or by calling the Hoover Met ticket office at (205) 739-7364. Parking is $5 – cash only – and a "clear bag" policy is in effect for the game.
Prior to the game, Troy will make the second stop on the 2018 Trojan Tour with a pregame social inside the Met. From 5-6 p.m. on the first base patio, fans can take pictures with the football championship trophies in addition to enjoying some light food and beverages. Sun Belt Football Coach of the Year Neal Brown will address the group at 5:45 p.m.
