Â
TROY, Ala. – The defending Sun Belt Conference champions are well represented on the Athlon Sports Preseason All-Sun Belt Team as Troy players hold down 19 spots on the annual list which was released Thursday.
Â
Troy's six first team selections are the most in the league and the four Trojans on the first team defense also pace the conference. Center Deontae Crumitie earned first team honors on the offensive side of the ball, while nose guard Trevon Sanders, bandit Hunter Reese, cornerback Blace Brown and safety Cedarius Rookard landed on the first team defense. All-American Marcus Jones earned one of his three all-conference nods as a first team punt returner.
Â
Brown enters the 2018 season second among active players nationally with 11 career interceptions, while Reese led Troy with 14.5 tackles for loss last season. The two former walk-ons were both named to the All-Sun Belt First Team last season as Troy led the league and ranked 24thnationally allowing just 336.6 yards per game.
Â
Troy's offense was prominent on the second team with running back Jamarius Henderson, wide receiver Deondre Douglas and offensive linemen Tristan Crowder and Kirk Kelley earning recognition. Linebacker Tron Folsom also earned second team honors as did Jones as a kick returner.
Â
Jones averaged 30.31 yards per kickoff return his freshman season with a school record three returned for a touchdown. He finished eighth nationally and first among freshmen with his 30.31 per-return average, which also ranked as the fourth-best in Troy and Sun Belt Conference history.
Â
Jones picked up his third all-conference selection as a third team cornerback and was joined on the third team by defensive end Marcus Webb. Troy's representation on the Athlon fourth team featured quarterback Kaleb Barker, wide receiver Traveon Samuel, wide receiver Damion Willis, offensive lineman J.L. Gaston and safety Will Sunderland.
Â
The Trojans set a school FBS record with 11 wins en route to their sixth Sun Belt Conference championship and a New Orleans Bowl title in 2017. Troy's 21 victories over the past two seasons are the eighth most in the country and the Trojans will carry the nation's fourth-longest active winning streak of seven games into the season opener against Boise State.
Â
Season ticket packages start as low as $60 and all ticket prices are identical to those from 2017. Troy plays host to six home games during the 2018 campaign, including visits from Boise State, Georgia State and Louisiana.
