TROY, Alabama – Senior Andrew Crane was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week ahead of third-seed Troy's first round game in the Sun Belt Tournament against sixth-seed Texas State at Russo Park in Lafayette, La Wednesday at 4 p.m.; all tournament games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
The Trojans (38-18, 19-11) won three of their last four games including a series victory over rival South Alabama that was sparked by Crane's start in game one. The native of Pascagoula, Miss., was one out shy of a two-hit shutout in his final outing at Riddle-Pace Field Friday.
Looking to break a seven-game losing streak in the conference tournament, Troy will rely on the leadership of Sun Belt Player of the Year Joey Denison – who led the league in nearly every batting category this season.
Denison is backed by loads of talent in the starting nine, including first teamer Drew Frederic, Freshman of the Year and second teamer Rigsby Mosley and second-team selection Matt Sanders.
In game one, the Trojans will call on the arm of true freshman RHP Levi Thomas (2-0, 0.90) – Thomas saw limited work in his last outing due to sickness.
