Joey Denison Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

TROY, Alabama – For the second time in his senior season, Joey Denison has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Troy-native, Denison was 11-for-15 (.733) with nine RBIs, six runs, four walks, two doubles and two stolen bases in the four games against Mississippi State and ULM last week.

He is now ranked sixth nationally in runs driven in this season with 64 and is just 10 shy of breaking Troy's single-season RBI record set by Tom King in 2006. The senior also leads the league in batting average, hits, RBIs, doubles and total bases.

Denison also took home the honors on March 6 hitting a homer, a triple, two doubles, stealing four bases, scoring six runs and driving 11 runs. The bulk of those 11 came with a six-RBI performance in the opener against Tennessee Tech – the most by a Trojan in a single game since 2014.

He and the Trojans are set to square off with No. 22 Auburn Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field for the squad's final midweek matchup of the season.
