Annie Willis Named Sun Belt Co-Pitcher of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Freshman ace Annie Willis has been named Sun Belt Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Willis helped lead Troy to a series victory over No. 21 Texas State this weekend as the Trojans swept Saturday's doubleheader. The freshman made an appearance in all three games of the series, and picked up the win in game two after throwing her 12th complete game and fourth shutout of the season. She limited the Bobcats to just two hits in that outing.

The Huntsville, Ala., native returned to the circle in the final game of the weekend, throwing the final 1.2 innings. She only gave up one hit and did not allow a run to cross the plate. Willis finished the weekend putting in 10.2 innings of work, giving up just five hits and only one run, with a 0.66 ERA.

On the year, Willis leads the pitching staff with 16 wins, 111 strikeouts and a 2.31 ERA, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt. Her 120 hits allowed is second in the league, while her 57 runs allowed ranks her third in the conference.

Troy will wrap up regular season and Sun Belt play on Sunday, May 6, at South Alabama. Game times for the doubleheader are slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
