The Trojans (22-10, 7-5) scored 10 runs on nine hits in the explosive fourth inning to spark their seventh double-digit hit game in the last eight. Troy scored 10 in the top of the seventh in Wednesday's midweek win at Jacksonville State.
Reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Drew Frederic started the inning with an RBI triple and picked up another RBI on a single later in the inning. The sophomore finished 4-for-5 with two extra-base hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Senior Brody Binder also had two RBI hits in that same inning – both singles. Binder went 4-for-5 to tie a season- and career-high total while driving in three runs and scoring another.
On top of those two performances, Matt Sanders and Brandon Lockridge turned in three-hit games, scoring a combined five runs. Overall, the first five in the lineup accounted for 16 of Troy's season-high 19 hits and drove in 11 of its runs.
Starter Rush Hixon (2-1) earned the win with five quality innings on the bump. Hixon struck out three and allowed seven hits before tossing the ball to CJ Carter, who fanned four in the final two innings to clinch the game and series for the Trojans.
Appalachian State's (8-21, 1-11) Drew Beck went 2-for-2 with a homer to lead the Mountaineers in the matchup. Reed Howell (0-3) was chased after allowing four runs on four hits in just 1.1 innings to take the loss.
Quotable – Troy head coach Mark Smartt
"I'm proud of the way we played today; we did good things all the way around today. Rush Hixon was good enough today. Then at the plate, Drew Frederic, Brody Binder and Matt Sanders all had a great day to wrap up their weekend. We have an important series this weekend at home against Coastal and we'll be ready for it."

Troy had not scored 10 runs in an inning in eight years before Wednesday night at Jacksonville State; then added its second 10-run frame of the week Sunday afternoon.
Noteworthy
• Joey Denison, Drew Frederic and Brody Binder drove in three runs apiece in the game. Denison moved his season total to 41; while Frederic tied a season-high.
• Frederic also swiped his 18th base of the season – he entered the weekend ranked 10th in stolen bases in the country.
• The run-rule win was Troy's first since 2016 when the Trojans defeated Georgia State in Atlanta.
On Deck
Troy will be the recipient of a much-needed off-week from midweek action before hosting the league-leading Coastal Carolina Chanticleers for a three-game series at Riddle-Pace Field starting Friday.
