TROY, Alabama –  The eyes of the Sun Belt Conference will gaze upon Riddle-Pace Field as Troy and 17th-ranked Coastal Carolina meet for a three-game series with early postseason implications starting Friday. Due to the possibility of inclement weather on Sunday, the two will now play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday after Friday's 6 p.m. start.
Â
The Trojans (22-10, 7-5) enter having won nine of their last 12 games with three consecutive league series victories. Troy also boasts two of the conference's top three hitters in seniors Matt Sanders and Joey Denison – Sanders is second nationally with 47 runs scored and Denison sits at sixth in the country with 41 runs driven in.
Â
Troy's school record book may be rewritten in the series, as well, with junior outfielder Brandon Lockridge aiming for sole possession of the all-time triples lead – he is currently tied with Adam Bryant will 11.
Veteran righties Andrew Crane (3-3, 4.24) and Daren Osby (5-0, 3.38) will get the nod from coach Mark Smartt in the first two games of the weekend; and local-product Rush Hixon (2-1, 3.41) is set to toe the rubber in Sunday's finale.
Â
Meanwhile, the first base dugout will house the 2016 National Champion and Sun Belt front-runner Chanticleers (24-11, 10-2). The Chants haven't dropped a series all season, thanks in part to leading the NCAA with 91 doubles.
Â
This series is one of just eight nationally this weekend between two teams ranked in the top 40 in the RPI – Troy at 38th and Coastal at 22nd.
