TROY, Alabama – Troy is en route to Boone, N.C., for the second leg of a five-day road trip as the Trojans are set to do battle with Appalachian State in a three-game Sun Belt series; first pitch for the opener has been moved to 2 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 2 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Sun Belt Player of the Week Drew Frederic and the Trojans (20-9, 5-4) head into the series after a roller coaster, 16-13, win at Jacksonville State Wednesday night that included a 10-run inning for Troy – the first of the sorts in eight years.
Frederic and Brody Binder have caught fire offensively as of late – Frederic leads the team with a six-game hitting streak and a 12-game reached base streak; while Binder has 11 hits in the last five games for Troy.
Senior RHP Daren Osby (4-0, 3.43) will put his undefeated record on the line in game two of the series, sandwiched by RHP Andrew Crane (3-2, 4.15) and RHP Rush Hixon (1-1, 3.04). The Trojan pitching staff had not allowed more the five runs since March 4 – it gave up eight Wednesday night.
The Mountaineers (7-19, 0-9) has struggled at the start of the conference season, but has yet to play a league game at home this year. Kendall McGowan is the club's top hitter, batting at a .271 clip.
