TROY, Alabama – Troy baseball is set to host Sun Belt Conference foe UT Arlington for a three-game set this weekend at Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch in the opener is set for 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday morning at 11 a.m. with all three games broadcast on ESPN3.
The matchup could prove crucial in terms of conference tournament seeding for both squads. Trojans (28-13, 11-7) currently sit in third in the East Division of the conference, just a game and a half behind second. Meanwhile, the Mavericks (20-21, 10-8) are tied for the runner-up spot in the West – a half-game back from the leaders.
Last time out, Troy dropped just its second midweek game of the season, 4-3, at Alabama Tuesday night. Despite the low-scoring affair, the Trojans held on to the top spot in the conference with a .292 batting average this season.
In the field, the Trojan pitching staff leads the league with a 3.79 team earned run average this year and the defense ranks third in fielding percentage at .976.
A slightly different starting rotation will get the nod in this series. Senior righties Andrew Crane (3-3, 3.84) and Daren Osby (5-0, 4.27) will take the hill in games one and two, respectively. However, freshman RHP Levi Thomas (1-0, 0.00) is set to make the second start of his young career in Sunday's finale.
UTA has yet to win a road set this season, including a series loss at Georgia Southern last weekend. The Mavs are led offensively by Zac Cook, who is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak and boasts the top batting average and stolen base totals on the squad.
