MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida – Troy moved into second place following Monday's second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship after shooting the second-best round of the day. Lindsey Harrison led the Trojans with a 4-over 75 and sits in second place on the individual leaderboard.
The Trojans shot 22-over as a team on Monday on a day that saw players post an average score of 79.15 on the par-71 course – four of Troy's five players shot below the course average on the day.
"The golf course played a lot harder today," head coach Randy Keck said. "We had a little different wind today and that really lengthened a lot of the holes and made the course extremely long. I don't think we played very well as we got off to a crummy start and just couldn't turn it around. I'm proud of the way we fought however and played a strong back nine."
Harrison entered the day tied for the individual lead but slipped into second place following her 4-over. She made the turn at 2-over with a pair of birdies and four bogeys and added two more bogeys on par-5 holes on the back nine.
Coastal Carolina's Malene Krolboll Hansen shot 2-under to pass Harrison and move into the lead. She will have a 4-shot advantage over Harrison entering Tuesday's final round and the duo will play together in the final pairing. Coastal shot just 2-over as a team in the second round to build a 23-shot lead over Troy, while UT Arlington is seven shots behind the Trojans in third.
"I'm really proud of Lindsey," Keck said. "It's nice to see all of her hard working paying off. She has played quality golf for two days now to put herself in a position to win. Hopefully she'll shoot under par tomorrow and have a chance at a title."
If Harrison is able to make up the 4-shot difference, she would become Troy's first individual champion since Fátima Fernández Cano won as a freshman in 2014.
Bianca Lohbauer is just three shots back of a top-10 finish as she sits tied for 15thplace following an 8-over 79. Sarah Harrison climbed seven spots into a tie for 20thplace after a round of 5-over jumpstarted by a birdie on the par-4 first.
Antonia Poate is tied with Sarah Harrison in the 20thposition at 13-over for the week after a 9-over card on Monday, while Eva Fabricius-Bjerre jumped nine spots into 31stplace with a 5-over 76; she carded four birdies on the day with three coming in a 1-under back nine.
"I told the team to just go out and play free and loose tomorrow," Keck said. "Let's go out and play a really good round, post the low number and see what happens with everyone else."
Troy will play in the final grouping alongside Coastal Carolina and UT Arlington for Tuesday's final round. The first pairing will hit the course at 8:15 a.m. and the leaders will tee off at 8:51 a.m.
