Kaylee Hussey Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS- Following a clean conference series sweep against Appalachian State, catcher Kaylee Hussey has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

The junior strung together five hits in seven at-bats with no strikeouts throughout the weekend, three of which went for extra bases. She went 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs scored and two RBI in game one of the series as Troy run-ruled the Mountaineers 13-3.

The Enterprise, Ala., native hit her fifth long ball of the season, tying a team-high, as Troy clinched the series with a dominating 15-2 five-inning victory in game two. In the final game of the series, Hussey's two-RBI double in the sixth inning scored the tying run, allowing the Trojans to eventually take the lead and earn the sweep.

Hussey finished the weekend with an impressive .714 average at the plate and 1.714 slugging percentage. Defensively, she recorded 15 putouts behind the plate, seven of which came in game one.

Troy returns to the field against UAB in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Mary Bowers Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
