TROY, Alabama – Troy baseball is set to welcome Gardner-Webb for the final non-conference series of the 2018 season with a three-game set at Riddle-Pace Field. Friday's opener is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and the finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday and kids will get in free to all three games.
Troy (8-5) will head into the weekend series with the Runnin' Bulldogs (10-3) – a former Atlantic Sun foe – having won four of their last five games, including a comeback victory at Samford Tuesday night.
The reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Joey Denison drove in two runs in the midweek matchup, moving him into eighth nationally with 21 RBIs on the season. Denison also scored the game-winning run on a Drew Frederic single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.
As a team, the Trojans are ranked 15th nationally and second in the Sun Belt with 16 home runs, while boasting the third-best team batting average in the league at a .276 clip. Troy's defense sits at 11th in the country having turned 14 double plays this season.
A familiar pitching rotation will take the mound for the Trojans in the three-game set, as RHP Andrew Crane, RHP Daren Osby and LHP Max Newton will earn the starts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Gardner-Webb has started the season strong, with a win over Wake Forest and a midweek split with Ball State its last time out. Corey Howard and Chandler Redmond lead the Runnin' Bulldogs at the plate – Howard with a .420 batting average and Redmond with five homers and 15 RBIs.
