TROY, Alabama – Troy baseball is headed to Louisiana to face off with the Ragin' Cajuns in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Russo Park starting Friday at 6 p.m.; game two is set for 2 p.m. Saturday and the finale will start a 1 on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Trojans (14-7, 1-2) is leaving the confines of Riddle-Pace Field for just the second series this season to meet the Cajuns (8-11, 1-2) in a matchup of two of the top pitching clubs in the league.
Â
At a 3.69 team ERA – 1.77 over the last nine games – Troy currently sits at third in the conference. Meanwhile, Louisiana ranks second in the same category allowing just 3.55 earned runs per nine innings this season.
Â
Coach Mark Smartt will call on RHP Andrew Crane (2-2, 4.33), RHP Daren Osby (2-0, 3.30) and LHP Max Newton (1-0, 0.56) to represent the Trojans in the duel on the mound this weekend.
Â
Troy had not scored more than six runs in eight straight games before getting off the offensive schneid with a 14-2 blowout of Samford on Tuesday night. Freshman Manning Early and senior Mason Rogers led the charge at the plate – each with a three-RBI triple in the game.
Â
The Trojans and Cajuns boast six combined conference titles since Troy joined the Sun Belt in 2006, while the rest of the league's current teams own just four total in that time – South Alabama (2), Little Rock (1) and ULM (1).
Â
Much like Troy in the conference opener last weekend, Louisiana dropped 2-of-3 at Georgia Southern. The Cajuns are led offensively by Gavin Bourgeois, who is batting at a .316 clip with four doubles and six stolen bases in 2018.
