Troy Splits In HEB College Classic Opener

CORPUS CHRISTIE, Texas – The first day of the HEB College Classic did not go as Troy would have hoped as the Trojans struggled to gain momentum in a 4-0 loss to host TAMU- Corpus Christi on Friday.
Andy Lau and Amer Bedwan won their doubles match 6-2 while Mustapha Belcora and Oskar Michalek dropped their matchup 6-1. That left the doubles point up to Jiaqi Duan and Pelayo Antuna, but they narrowly came up short in a 7-6, 9-7 defeat.
Three out of the four singles matches went undefeated as TAMU – Corpus Christi were able to win all three singles points in straight sets. Duan fell 7-5, 6-4, Lau was defeated 6-3, 6-4 and Bedwan also was unable to win a set in a 6-3, 7-6 loss.

CORPUS CHRISTIE, Texas -- The second match of the day went in Troy's favor as the Trojans rallied from an earlier defeat to shut down UTRG 4-1 in a singles-only match.
Oskar Michalek dominated 6-2, 6-1 to pick up his fourth win of the season and raise his record to 4-3 in dual match play. Andy Lau followed him in the victory category with a 6-4 win in straight sets to pick up his sixth win of the year; good for second on the team.
It was a tight match for Jiaqi Duan who had to gut out consecutive 7-5 wins to take home the victory. The final winner of the day was Amer Bedwan who came out on top with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
