Troy Opens Conference Slate with Little Rock

TROY, Alabama – Troy's grueling, 30-game Sun Belt Conference schedule kicks off this weekend with a three-game set against Little Rock at Riddle-Pace Field; first pitch for the opener is set for 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Troy will host a bevy of promotions over the weekend, including Trojan Warrior and Troy Alumni Appreciation Friday and #SpitSTRONG Day on Saturday. For a detailed look at all of these, scroll down.

The Trojans (12-5) come in riding a six-game win streak and having won the most games by a Troy team prior to the start of conference play since 2011 – when Troy started 14-2 and went on to win the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

Strong pitching performances have propelled Troy on its streak, boasting just a 2.00 team ERA over the last five games. This weekend the Trojans will look for more of the same, sending RHP Andrew Crane (2-1, 4.71), RHP Daren Osby (1-0, 4.30) and LHP Max Newton (1-0, 0.75) to the mound for the starts.

At the plate, senior Joey Denison has driven in at least one run in each of the last 10 games – with nine extra-base hits over that same time frame. Denison ranks third nationally and leads the league with 26 RBIs this season.

The other Trojans (9-8) head into the weekend after taking their series with Memphis, 2-1, over last weekend and emerging victorious in their midweek matchup with Louisiana Tech. Little Rock is led by Troy Alexander, whose .377 batting average is second in the conference, only trailing Matt Sanders' .388 clip.
