Troy Sweeps South Alabama With 80-63 Win Saturday

TROY, Alabama. – In front of the highest crowd in Trojan Arena history for a Sun Belt game, Troy swept South Alabama on the season with an 80-63 victory behind a balanced scoring attack that saw five Trojans in double digits.
Troy (10-13, 4-6) left no doubts about coming up on top as the Trojans held the lead for all but 4:12 in the contest. Led by 18 points from Wesley Person, Troy had an even 40 points in each half and shot 40 percent or higher in both frames.
After taking a 40-32 halftime lead, Person proceeded to hit a 3-pointer just 15 seconds into the second half. South Alabama (11-12, 4-6) went on a run to cut the lead to four three minutes later, but Troy immediately answered back with an 8-2 spurt in the ensuing three minutes.
The unheralded star of the night was Kevin Baker as the guard came off the bench to notch the first double-double of his Troy career with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He also pitched in five assists, which marked the seventh time this season the senior has had five or more assists.
It was a balanced night on the stat sheet, but Troy took home the victory from deep as the Trojans knocked down 10 3-pointers while South Alabama had just four. Person was the leader in the game with four threes.
QUOTABLE
"It was a game that we really needed to get," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "We needed to get back into the win column and our team needed some confidence. It was also a tremendous crowd.
"When you walked in and saw that crowd you thought, 'We've got to win today.' It was a really good win for us moving forward to try to get some momentum going."

Next week will see Little Rock come to town on Thursday and Arkansas State visit Trojan Arena on Saturday.
