TROY, Ala. – With four games remaining in the regular season, Troy will face the conference leader in Louisiana on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. as the Trojans remain in the hunt for a top-four seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and first-round bye.
A four-game winning streak was interrupted on Saturday after Troy (13-14, 7-7) went cold in a 65-54 loss at Appalachian State. Despite the setback, the Trojans still sit in a three-way tie for fourth in the conference at 7-7 with ULM and South Alabama.
The four remaining games will be vital as Troy will face all four opponents currently seeded above with ULM (4) visiting on Saturday before closing the season at Georgia State (2) on March 1 and Georgia Southern (3) on March 3.
Troy's recent victorious stretch was due largely to a dominant stretch from Jordon Varnado as the junior tied his career-high 13 rebounds three times in the past four games highlighted by a 30-point, 13-rebound game against the Mountaineers. It was the sixth-time he has had 13 rebounds and second time hitting 30 points.
Louisiana (23-4, 13-1) visits Trojan Arena with a comfortable first-place lead in the Sun Belt. The first matchup between the teams on Jan. 27 saw Troy down just four at the half before eventually falling 81-69 in the Cajundome.
