Prestegard Leads Troy to Victory in First Leg of Twin Bill

TROY, Ala. – Cole Prestegard drove in four runs to lead another potent Troy offensive attack past UT Martin, 10-4, in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Riddle-Pace Field.

Prestegard finished 3-for-5 with a homer and two doubles to spark a 12-hit performance for Troy (2-0). In the two games so far, he is 5-for-8 with six RBIs and a 1.950 OPS.

Senior Matt Sanders also posted three hits, homering driving in two runs of his own. Sanders has homered in each of the Trojans' first two games – he only hit three home runs all last season.

JUCO transfer CJ Carter (1-0) earned the start and the win on the mound for Troy. Carter struck out five and allowed only three runs on four hits in five innings of work.

Corey Childress entered in relief in the seventh inning and the Trojans rode him the rest of the way. The senior worked three hitless, scoreless innings to earn his 11^th career save and first of the new season.

Noteworthy
• Matt Sanders homered in the fourth for his second long ball in as many games. He only hit three homers all last season and his second did not come until Apr. 28 at Coastal Carolina.

• With his three hits, Matt Sanders turned in his 53^rd career multi-hit game, leading all Trojans by nine games. He also extended his career-long hitting streak to 10 games.

• As a team, Troy has hit five homers in the first two games of 2018. The Trojans did not reach the five-homer threshold until the seventh game of 2017.

• Corey Childress recorded his 11^th career save to move into sole possession of fifth-place all-time in the Troy record books – Nate Hill ranks fourth with 12.

The Trojans will start the second-leg of the doubleheader against UT Martin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Troy will send RHP Daren Osby to the mound for the start in the matchup.
