Troy, Ala. – Troy men's basketball travels to St. Louis, Mo., for its first road contest of the season as it faces St. Louis on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside of Chaifetz Arena to begin the Barclays Center Classic.Â

Troy is coming off a dominant 95-60 win over Fort Valley State on Nov. 6. The 35-point victory is tied for the largest margin of victory inside of Trojan Arena and marks the sixth consecutive home season opener win.Â

Senior Alex Hicks led the way with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-11 from the field, alongside five rebounds and a steal. Sophomore Javan Johnson followed right behind Hicks, dropping 18 points including 5-of-6 from behind the arc which tied his career high in three-pointer made in a game.Â

Freshmen KJ Simon and Zay Williams put up good numbers off the bench as the duo combined for 20 points (Williams 11pts, Simon 9pts).Â

The Billikens also began their 2018-19 campaign with a victory, as they defeated Southeast Missouri State, 75-65. Seniors Javon Bess and Tramaine Isabell Jr. scored a game-high 18 points with Bess adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals to his stat line.Â

St. Louis was picked to win the Atlantic-10 conference after claiming 15 of the 26 first-place votes. Last year, the Billikens finished sixth with a 17-16 overall record and a 9-9 clip in conference.Â

Bess, St. Louis' leading returning scorer (13.3ppg), was named to the Atlantic-10 Preseason Second Team alongside sophomore Jordan Goodwin. Additionally, Bess was named to the preseason All-Defensive Team. Sophomore Hasahn French was named to the Atlantic-10 Preseason Third Team.Â

Saturday's contest will mark the second-ever meeting between the two teams. In the sole meeting, the Billikens nipped the Trojans 63-55 on Nov. 22, 2004 in Albuquerque, N.M.
