Tyler Sumpter Named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Tyler Sumpter tied the Troy school record with four field goals in the Trojans' victory over Louisiana this past Saturday and has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

This is Sumpter's second conference honor of the season after winning the award following Troy's victory at Nebraska back in September. The native of Hoover, Ala., accounted for 14 of Troy's 26 points against the Cajuns and extended his consecutive field goal streak to eight straight.

Sumpter connected on field goals of 49, 42, 29 and 20 yards in the game which was Troy's 11thstraight Sun Belt Conference victory. The sophomore is now 11-for-14 on the season in the field goal department and has led Troy to ranking seventh nationally with a 41.97 net punting average.

Troy travels to Georgia Southern on Saturday for a key Sun Belt East Division showdown. Troy sits 5-0 in the league entering the weekend while Georgia Southern and Appalachian State are 4-1.
